Anthropic Takes On OpenAI

Claude 3 launch

Reflecting on AI innovations and trends last week. AGI is near. Claude3 dunked on ChatGPT. Prompt to Games - Cognition AI. Perplexity AI CEO’s recruitment adventure. Launch of Devin, an AI software engineer and digital Marilyn. AI on full swing.

Here are the 4 interesting AI things that I learned and enjoyed this week.

4 AI Things

Claude 3 is a new AI challenging ChatGPT with three versions: Haiku (fastest, not yet released), Sonnet (free, available now), and Opus (most powerful, £20/mo). It outperforms ChatGPT and Gemini, offering high-quality interactions and the ability to understand images. Users can ask for improvements to uploaded images or identify objects. Claude 3 aims for fewer restrictions, enhancing user experience with more natural language and improved vision capabilities, though it still has limitations, like not accepting spreadsheets and sometimes refusing tasks. Anthropic's approach, backed by Amazon with $4 billion, focuses on AI that's safe and public-friendly.

Digital Marilyn comes to life by mixing natural language processing, deep learning, and GPT-3.5 to let her chat and react like the icon herself. Digital Marilyn can read user emotions, analyze preferences, and tailor her responses. It was created by Soul machines, an platform that creates AI-powered digital people. Picture Digital Marilyn, decades after "Some Like It Hot," still making us smile and giving movie night advice like a Hollywood insider. Who knows? Netflix might be eyeing Digital Marilyn for a comeback role. Even though Monroe can never be replaced, this digital avatar is a treat to all her fans.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is like the brainiest robot you can imagine, one that's as smart as a human across the board. It can learn, understand, and apply knowledge in any area, from writing poetry to solving complex scientific problems, just like we do. Unlike today's AI, which might be a whiz at one specific task but clueless about anything else, AGI can transfer what it learns in one domain to tackle challenges in completely different areas. It's the dream of creating a machine that doesn't just mimic human tasks but actually thinks and reasons like a human. AGI would be able to make decisions, plan for the future, and even understand emotions. Essentially, it's the science fiction idea of a fully intelligent robot, but scientists and engineers are working to make it a reality.

Cognition Labs recently introduced 'Devin', the inaugural AI software engineer, to the market. This groundbreaking AI is capable of autonomously creating and deploying complete applications. In a demonstration, Devin efficiently completed tasks sourced from Upwork and impressively addressed approximately 14% of actual problems on GitHub, outperforming numerous programmers. Devin can train and fine tune its own AI models. Watch the video below to get a taste.

The CEO of Perplexity faced a daunting challenge when attempting to recruit a top researcher from Meta. The researcher had a weird demand? A whopping 10,000 Nvidia's H100 GPUs, a key component in developing AI technologies. No wonder Nvidia’s stock is skyrocketing as we speak 😁
